Samsung Galaxy S5 Outsold The iPhone 5s In Its Opening Weekend

Samsung Galaxy S5 Outsold The iPhone 5s In Its Opening WeekendThe Samsung Galaxy S5 is the South Korean tech giant’s latest and greatest handset. Given that it is also part of the extremely successful Galaxy S-lineup has help build anticipation and hype over the device, but how is it faring against the competition?

Well according to recent data released by a retail management software provider, it seems that it is doing quite well and might have even outsold the iPhone 5s during its launch weekend.

The data was apparently collected from over 15,000 store locations across North America and it assuming the information is accurate, it looks like Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has proven to be a hit amongst customers, even more so than the iPhone 5s when it was launched in the later part of 2013.

As you can see in the image above, the Samsung Galaxy S5 managed to account for 25% of all smartphones sold in the US during the first weekend of its availability. As for Canada, the handset accounted for 18%. However when compared to the iPhone, the iPhone 5s only managed to account for 18% of smartphones sold in North America during its opening weekend, and only 13% in Canada.

It is possible that there are other factors that could have attributed to the lower iPhone 5s sales figures. For example there could have been another phone launched around that time that was more attractive. It could also be that because it was approaching the holiday season that people didn’t want to splurge on a new phone, or it could simply be that the Galaxy S5 is a much more popular device. What do you guys think?
