Android 5.0 Lollipop To Feature SD Card Functionality

galaxy note 4 lollipopIf there is one major gripe that Android users have against the iPhone, it would be this – the lack of expandable memory. After all, some of us do happen to “categorize” the different kinds of photos that we take – ranging from portraits to those of food, in addition to using other SD memory cards to store various files like movies and songs. It has been quite some time that Google has not included SD cards in Nexus devices, not to mention removing this functionality from Android, but it looks like the universe will be restored to the right balance when Android 5.0 Lollipop rolls around.

With Android 4.4 KitKat, Google started to bring back some of its SD card functionality, although they themselves have not gone the whole nine yards with their effort. Things look set to change with Android 5.0 Lollipop, as Google has introduced new APIs which were specially designed to enable one to access SD memory cards in an easy manner – securely, too.

In other words, developers can fully access SD card directories and files, while users will need to enable access one time for an app, and all other subsequent efforts ought to fall into place nicely without missing a beat. Apps can also do their thing and create directories to facilitate an easier storage of media on an SD memory card. Are happy days here again?
