Nautiz X8 rugged PDA takes everything that you can throw at it

nautiz-x8While there are many positives to be taken from the ongoing development of smatrtphones and tablets, one of the more notable advancements in my humble opinion would be the increasing durability of smartphones – especially those that come with a waterproof ability. After all, it is not every day that you dunk your phone into a pool of water, but when that happens, you know for sure that all of your lovingly captured photos and videos will still be intact, unless of course, you happen to have left the waterproof flaps open. Well, mobile computers too, had a tough edge to them, and the Handheld Group has just announced the launch of its latest Nautiz X8 rugged PDA. The Nautiz X8 rugged PDA (continuing from where the Nautiz X7 left off) happens to be a handheld computer that features superior processing power, screen performance and battery life, and has been built to last.

Tough as nails, the Nautiz X8 rugged PDA was specially developed in order for it to function in the likes of GIS, land surveying, public safety, forestry and the military, going to show just what a tough nut this particular model can be. Specially constructed to enable efficient and reliable data collection regardless of just how tough the particular environment can be, it will sport an IP67 ingress protection rating, which translates to the delivery of complete protection against dust and sand, not to mention being able to withstand immersion in water. Apart from that, the Nautiz X8 rugged PDA will also meet stringent MIL-STD-810G military test standards for overall durability and resistance to humidity, shock, vibration, drops, salt and extreme temperatures.

As for the kind of hardware that this bad boy comes with, it will boast of a high-performance Texas Instruments 4470 dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, where it will be accompanied by 1GB RAM, 4GB of iNAND Flash as well as a 5,200 mAh Li-ion battery which is capable of lasting up to a dozen hours on a single charge. Alongside that would be two different mobile operating systems to choose from – Android 4.2.2 or Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5.3. I know that both of them are not exactly the flavor of the month, but life is all about compromises, ain’t it?

The Nautiz X8 will also boast of a large 4.7-inch ultra-bright capacitive multi-touch screen with chemically strengthened Asahi Dragontrail glass, delivering unparalleled brightness and protection in any field condition. Other hardware features include a dedicated u-blox GPS receiver, Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, GSM/UMTS or CDMA phone data transmission, an 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus and an LED flash. Expect initial deliveries of the Nautiz X8 rugged PDAto arrive later this November.
