After a leaked Gmail 5.0 for Android APK showed up on the web late last week, Google has now officially announced the updated version of Gmail for Android. According to the search giant, the new version of Gmail will reach Play Store over the next few days.
The company has also made the already-revealed changes official like the design revamp of Gmail app as per material design guidelines as well as support for third-party email accounts. Although the Google blog post doesn’t mention Exchange support, it was seen in the leaked APK, so it will probably be present in the updated version of the Gmail app.
In addition, Google has stated that new version of Gmail app will work with all Android devices running Android 4.0 or above.
Here is quick look at the various changes in new Gmail app:
- Modern style, sleeker transitions, and a few other handy improvements
- Reply button at the bottom of every message
- Easier to switch between accounts and the different inbox categories
- Supports all email providers
